How to Download Aadhar Card Without EID or UID

The most crucial document in today’s time is the aadhaar card. It’s widespread usage has made it a document which is available in everyone’s wallet, if not wallet then surely in their phone. You go to buy a sim card or a credit card, you will be asked to produce aadhaar card as an identity proof, not only identity proof but it is also used as a KYC document which speeds up the government and bureaucratic processes. It is a small document which can often be misplaced as well. The Aadhaar card, if misplaced, can be downloaded online but for that you need a Aadhaar Unique Identification Number (UID) or Enrolment Identification Number (EID). What if you forget that, don’t worry the government has got you covered on that. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has come up with a new service to retrieve lost or forgotten UID/EID. 

What is an aadhaar card?

“Aadhaar number is a 12-digit random number issued by the UIDAI (“Authority”) to the residents of India after satisfying the verification process laid down by the Authority. Any individual, irrespective of age and gender, who is a resident of India, may voluntarily enrol to obtain Aadhaar number. Person willing to enrol has to provide minimal demographic and biometric information during the enrolment process which is totally free of cost. An individual needs to enrol for Aadhaar only once and after de-duplication only one Aadhaar shall be generated, as the uniqueness is achieved through the process of demographic and biometric de-duplication, defines the government.”

Here are steps through which you can retrieve your Unique Identification Number (UID) or Enrolment Identification Number (EID) :-

  1. Log onto uidai.gov.in, which the official website of the UIDAI 
  2. Under the ‘My Aadhaar tab’ click ‘Retrieve Lost or Forgotten EID/UID’ 
  3. Here a new tab will be opened. Where you need to enter the details which are asked like full name, email address and phone number.
  4. Select the option EID or UID, whichever you want to retrieve
  5. Fill in your Aadhaar Number or Enrolment ID
  6. Once you have filled Aadhaar number now you will have to enter Full Name, Mobile No./Email Address, and Captcha Verification.
  7. After verification, an OTP or TOTP will be sent to your registered mobile number.
  8. Once you have entered the OTP and its verified your UID or EID will be sent to your registered mobile number or email address.

Note: If you have not registered your mobile number or email address with Aadhaar card then you need to visit the nearest Permanent Enrolment Centre for retrieval of UID/EID.

Once you have retrieved Unique Identification Number (UID) or Enrolment Identification Number (EID), here are the steps to download Aadhaar card:-

  1. Log onto uidai.gov.in, which the official website of the UIDAI 
  2. Open My Aadhaar tab and then click Download Aadhaar.  
  3. Once the page is open, select Aadhaar number, EID or VID.
  4. Fill enrolment number or Aadhaar number in the given input space.
  5. Enter your full Name and Pincode
  6. Then click the box ‘I want a masked Aadhaar card?’
  7. Enter the Captcha code, captcha code is filled due to security purposes 
  8. Enter the registered mobile number, where you will receive an One-time password OTP. 
  9. Enter the One time password 
  10. Click ” Validate & Download”
  11. Once verification is done your Duplicate Aadhaar card will be downloaded in the pdf format
  12. To take a print you will have to use Zip code as password.

Points to remember:-

To retrieve UID or EID you don’t need any documents. You will only be required to provide registered contact details. 

The government does not charge any fee to retrieve or download e-aadhaar card, it is free of cost. 

e-Aadhaar is equally valid and it can be used for all services which an aadhaar card is used for.  

Zip code is a combination of To unlock e-Aadhaar, one has to use a combination of the first 4 characters of your name and the year of birth in YYYY format as the password.

Password: SUBH1978
